Find your next step when you return to your story
9 September 2026| Learn About Me| Using your account | 3 min read
You meant to return to your story last weekend. Then someone visited, there were errands to do, and the afternoon disappeared. When you finally sit down again, the first question is practical: where was I?
It helps to see a familiar starting point. A chapter you recognise, a recent story title, or a clear next action can make returning feel manageable.
Your signed-in home dashboard brings your Learn About Me work together. It helps you see what you have underway and choose where you would like to continue, without having to remember every part of your last visit.
Begin with something familiar
Perhaps you were answering questions about your childhood. Perhaps you had begun a separate story about a friend and wanted to add how you first met.
The dashboard brings guided progress and recent stories into view. Seeing that work can remind you what was on your mind and give you a place to pick up the thread.
You do not need to reread everything before continuing. Start with the piece you recognise most easily. A few moments with your previous writing may bring back the detail you had wanted to add, or help you see that you are ready for a different question.
Let the next action make the choice smaller
When several things are underway, deciding what to do can take up the time you had set aside for writing. The dashboard recommends a next action using the work available in your account and relevant deadlines.
That suggestion gives you a useful starting point. You still choose how to spend your time. Today might suit continuing a chapter; another day might be better for returning to a short story.
If you have only a little time, choose a step that feels comfortable. You could read the last part you wrote or continue a memory that is already clear in your mind. There is no need to turn every visit into a long session.
See the work that belongs to you
The areas you see depend on your access and what you have underway. Alongside guided writing and recent stories, the dashboard can bring together personal-book status and a tribute you are organising or contributing to.
If you are helping with a family tribute, that work can be easier to find when you return. This is a way to keep track of your participation; it does not mean every account includes every writing option.
Access information, gift redemption, and other ways to write are also easier to find. A guided Life Story package and Tell It Your Way have separate access conditions, so seeing an option is a reason to explore its details rather than assume it is already included.
Let an ordinary visit be enough
Returning to a story can stir up the feeling that you should have done more by now. Try starting with curiosity instead: which memory would you enjoy spending a little time with today?
The dashboard can help you locate the work. You bring the reason for continuing, whether that is explaining a family tradition or sharing a part of yourself your children have never heard much about.
For ways to make the session itself more comfortable, explore speaking, focusing, and reading your words back.
The next time you sign in, choose one step from your dashboard. Let that be enough to begin again, and see where the memory takes you.
