Bring your stories together into a book that feels personal

You remember writing about your first home. There was something about the neighbour who arrived with a kettle before you had unpacked yours. Now you want to find that story and include it beside the chapter about starting a family.

As your collection grows, choosing what belongs together becomes part of telling it. A personal book can help someone follow the people, places, and experiences that matter to you, in a form they can return to and talk about with you.

Find the story you have in mind

You do not always remember when you wrote something. You may only remember the title, or that you had finished it but had not yet decided whether it belonged in the book.

The story library lets you search titles, filter by status and book placement, and change the order of the results. Story cards give you more information to help recognise the piece you are looking for.

A clear title helps here. Calling a story “Our first neighbour in Durban” gives you something familiar to look for later. You can organise gradually, as you return to the memories you want to read again.

A finished story can have its own place

Finishing a story does not mean you must put it into your book. You can keep a completed story in the library, include it within an existing chapter, or give it a place as a standalone story in a separate Stories section.

That choice lets you think about the reader. A short memory might explain something in a chapter beautifully. Another might be more enjoyable on its own, with its own beginning and ending.

Archiving a story and removing it from a book are different decisions. Use the book placement choice when you are deciding what the book should contain. Archive and restore help manage the library itself; do not assume that archiving is the same as choosing “Remove from book”.

Give the collection a shape that feels right

Eligible Lifetime members can rename, reorder, or omit chapters. These options depend on your access, so use the choices available in your account when planning the book.

The cover is another chance to make the collection feel personal. You can choose a ready-made design or use a personal photo. It may help to think about which picture would make someone in your family want to open the book and ask about it.

A cover does not need to explain everything inside. It can be a welcoming first glimpse of the person and stories they are about to spend time with.

Check that the book includes what you expect

Before requesting the book, review its contents and readiness messages. A chapter may not yet be ready, or its current text may not include memories you added more recently. Where needed, recreate the chapter before requesting the next book version.

A previously generated download stays as it was. Later writing and edits do not automatically appear in that file. These choices concern preparing your book; they do not mean a physical copy has been ordered or shipping arranged.

If you are still adding to a chapter, there is room to return to missing memories.

Choose one story you would like someone close to you to read. Find it in your library, then review whether it belongs in your next book and where it would feel most at home.
